A few days ago, we planned to do the Täschhorn–Dom traverse, but when we climbed the Täschhorn, there was too much snow. So instead, we just went up Täschhorn and then headed back down - a lot of additional vert, but risk avoidance is more important.
A week later, we returned to climb the Dom. We started our hike and at first we passed by the huge Europa Hanging-Bridge — it’s about 300 meters long — and continued from there. For some reason, I found it really exhausting, maybe because of the altitude. When we reached the hut, there was an adorable cat there, which immediately made our day. The only downside was that everything was extremely expensive — like 16 euros for a bottle of water!
The next morning, we started our ascent around 4 a.m. There were quite a lot of people on the route, which is normal since the Dom is the highest independent mountain in Switzerland. We had considered climbing over the Festigrat ridge, but in the end decided to take the normal route instead, the ridge was still in rather bad conditions (snow and ice).
At the summit, the weather was perfect — clear blue skies and incredible views in every direction. On the way down, we could slide a lot on the snow, which was actually really fun. When we got back to the hut, we took a short break, had some Meringue with cream, saw the cat again, and then began the long descent back to the valley.
Overall, the whole tour was exhausting but absolutely amazing — a truly unforgettable experience.
