Ascent Report
Finally, the opportunity presents itself to climb Piz Bernina, thanks to @Paolofit.DSR's idea - it's true that going there alone was always a difficult choice due to its geographical remoteness and isolation - Piz Bernina is located in Switzerland, in the canton of Graubünden. At 4,048 m above sea level, it is the highest point of the Bernina range and of the entire Eastern Alps, of which it is the only peak over 4,000 meters. The border with Italy (Lombardy) passes below the summit, on Punta Perrucchetti, also known as La Spedla (or Spalla) - the Marco e Rosa refuge is located at 3,6000 m in Italy!
So, it was in pleasant company that we set off from Pontresina to Diavolezza-Lagalp - our first day to the refuge. We hesitated a little. We would have had time to reach the summit on the first day, but we decided to wait for the snow to harden overnight. This was an excellent choice, as we discovered the next day that the Spalla was still well-covered with snow and that access to the summit was via the eastern flank, which was exposed to the sun from the first rays of the sun.
In barely two hours, we reached the summit and at 1pm we were already back at the car, despite having chosen the "high" route for the return to avoid the risk of serac falls.
Summary: dream conditions, a superb first outing with Paolo, who, even better, turned out to be very sympathetic. Looking forward to more outings!
